An Ordinary Civil Servant’s Transfer to Another World A Gacha-Dependent Life Relying on Luck
I absolutely must get that White Wolf girl.
I only have three days.
“Alright. Just as I decided yesterday, I’ll look for valuable items at the stalls and make some money!”
Using my Appraisal skill to its fullest, I’ll search for rare items from the town’s outdoor vendors and sell them to the guild.
Hmm… it’s realistic, but will it really go that smoothly?
Breathing in the fresh morning air, I headed toward the central square.
Just as I arrived, the outdoor vendors were setting up their stalls. The variety of goods on display was impressive: meat, fruits, handicrafts, ornaments, medicinal herbs, weapons, armor, and even old tools and junk.
“Alright, time to appraise everything one by one.”
Activating my Appraisal skill, I began inspecting each item.
For example, there was an old-looking dagger rusted on the surface, sitting on a stall. When I appraised it, it showed 【Ancient Dungeon Dagger (Durability 50%)】. The price? One silver coin.
“I’ll buy this. It’ll probably sell well.”
I immediately decided to purchase it.
The thrill of not knowing whether it will actually sell is kind of nerve-wracking. I’m narrowing down items based on appraisal results that seem valuable, but still…
At another stall, I found what looked like a decorative pendant. Upon appraising it, the result came back as 【Mana Amplification Pendant (+2 Magic Power)】. I bought it for two silver coins.
“Anything that boosts stats is almost certainly a safe bet.”
I continued checking out more stalls.
There was only one stall selling weapons and armor.
Weapons and armor tend to be expensive, and since this was a stall, they were being sold alongside appraisal results from professional appraisers.
This particular stall was selling one-of-a-kind weapons forged by a dwarf blacksmith, but because appraisal results were included, I avoided buying anything unnecessary.
At another promising stall, I found a shop specializing in junk and miscellaneous items, labeled as “Direct from the Labyrinth City.”
Among the items, I discovered things like 【Fragment of an Ancient Magic Circle】, 【Unfinished Magical Artifact】, and 【Gemstone Sealed with Magic Power】—items likely to fetch high prices at the guild. I purchased them for two to five silver coins each.
“Man, using Appraisal so much is really tiring…”
With limited time, I planned to check everything today.
While I can use Appraisal, my lack of knowledge means I don’t know for sure if these items will sell for a good price. There’s also the possibility that some of them might not sell at all.
“For now, the best I can do is buy items where there’s a gap between the shop’s description and the appraisal result, focusing on ones with potentially positive effects.”
I’ll do what I can with what I have—for the sake of that kemonomimi girl.
As I went around the stalls, I noticed several shops selling medicinal herbs and potions.
They all looked indistinguishable at first glance, but upon appraising them, I got information like 【Medicinal Herb (Healing Use, Poor Quality)】, 【Medicinal Herb (Enhancement Use, Average Quality)】, and 【Low-Grade Potion (Healing Use, High Quality)].
“Even with the information, I honestly can’t tell which herbs are valuable…”
In the end, I decided to stop checking herbs and potions for the day and planned to visit a specialized apothecary tomorrow. It would be smarter to gather detailed information before making any moves.
By evening, I headed to the guild with the haul I’d gathered from the stalls.
It was time to test whether the hidden gems I’d found using my Appraisal skill were truly valuable.
“I’ve pretty much checked every single stall in the square.”
At least I confirmed the inventory of junk items, so I could say I’ve examined nearly all the goods currently available in Eastglad. I found 11 items with appraisal results that differed significantly from their descriptions, each purchased for roughly one to five silver coins.
Pushing open the guild doors, I saw the same blonde female staff member who had helped me register yesterday morning standing at the counter.
“Welcome. How may I assist you?”
“I’d like to sell these items. Could you appraise them?”
I took out the 11 items I’d purchased from the stalls and laid them on the counter.
A short sword, a pendant, fragments of a magic circle, an unfinished magical artifact, and a gem imbued with magic power—all judged to have value based on my Appraisal.
The staff member carefully examined each item, placing them one by one onto a device inscribed with a small magic circle. It seemed this device evaluated the value and properties of the items.
“First, this short sword—it’s an ‘Ancient Dungeon Dagger.’ While its durability is low, it’s infused with magic, so there’s demand for it at the guild. The buyback price will be 12 silver coins.”
Wow, the short sword I bought for one silver coin turned out to be worth something! Not bad.
The appraisals continued.
“This ‘Mana Amplification Pendant’ has low efficiency, but there’s demand for it among mages as a decorative item. We’ll buy it for 10 silver coins.”
“This bracelet cannot be appraised with our crystal here. I recommend taking it to the capital for further evaluation.”
What? My prized 【Swiftwind Bracelet (+5 Agility)】 couldn’t be appraised?
“Next, this ‘Unfinished Magical Artifact.’ There’s no demand for it, so the buyback price will be a modest one silver coin. Is that acceptable?”
“Next…”
“Total buyback amount comes to eight gold coins. However, after deducting the 20% guild commission, your final payout will be six gold coins and four silver coins. Is that acceptable?”
The commission was within my expectations. A 20% cut hurts, but that’s the price for the safety and convenience of selling through the guild.
Given the limited time, selling through the guild is the best option.
“Yes, please proceed.”
She efficiently packed the gold and silver coins into a small pouch and handed it to me over the counter.
“If you need anything else, feel free to visit us anytime.”
“Thank you. I’ll be back.”
Taking the pouch, I left the guild.
Gripping the coins I’d earned, I faced the harsh reality that I was still far from my goal. After subtracting the purchase costs, my profit amounted to three gold coins and two silver coins.
The 【Swiftwind Bracelet】 didn’t sell, but everything else—including some junk items—was sold.
Returning to the inn, I reviewed my plans once again.
The profit relative to the purchase cost was quite good.
But the problem was that I couldn’t keep doing this every day.
Having checked almost all the items at the stalls today, the chances of finding new hidden gems tomorrow or later were extremely slim.
“Troubling… What should I do?”
I’d need to investigate medicinal herbs by visiting an apothecary tomorrow.
If I can figure out which herbs are valuable, there’s still potential to increase my profits.
“Are there other ways to make use of my Appraisal skill…?”
Wracking my brain while exhausted from overusing Appraisal, I eventually nodded off without realizing it.
Hopefully, I’ll find a breakthrough tomorrow…
